Global Recycling Day is a great reminder that the small choices we make every day can have a big impact on the planet. Beauty products are part of our daily routines, but the packaging they come in is something we should all think about a bit more.
At Technic Cosmetics, we’re on a sustainability journey. Like many brands, we know it’s not perfect and it takes time, but we’re committed to making better choices and improving where we can.
Our Sustainability Journey
Sustainability is something we’re actively working on across the business. The goal is simple. Create affordable beauty products while improving how they’re made and packaged.
We’ve partnered with organisations like PETA, OPRL, BEYONDLY, CITEO, ERP, LUCID, Planet Mark, and Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association to help guide us in the right direction.
These partnerships support everything from ethical standards to packaging compliance and carbon reduction.
What We’re Doing So Far
We’ve already taken some important steps and continue to build on them each year:
- Reducing or removing unrecyclable plastics from secondary packaging since 2021
- Making sure all new product development uses the most recyclable materials possible
- Introducing at least 30% recycled content into product components where possible
- Updating existing Technic favourites with more recyclable packaging
- Working with our in-house Sustainability Team to make sure all progress is genuine and transparent
In 2026, new UK regulations like Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) mean brands are now responsible for the cost of recycling their packaging. For us, that is a positive step. It pushes us to keep improving and use better, more recyclable materials across our range.
5 Easy Ways to Recycle Your Makeup
Recycling your beauty products does not have to be complicated. A few simple habits can make a big difference.
1. Empty and Clean Your Packaging
Make sure your products are empty before recycling them. A quick wipe or rinse helps ensure they can be processed properly.
2. Separate Materials
A lot of makeup packaging includes different materials like plastic, metal, or mirrors. Separating these where possible makes recycling easier.
3. Check Local Recycling Rules
Recycling guidelines can vary depending on where you live, so it is always worth checking what your local council accepts.
4. Reuse What You Can
Before throwing something away, think about whether you could reuse it. Empty containers are great for travel, storage, or organising your makeup drawer.
5. Choose Better Packaging
Where possible, look for products that use recyclable materials or include recycled content. It is a simple way to support more sustainable beauty.
It’s a Work in Progress
Sustainability is not something that happens overnight. It is a long-term commitment and something we are constantly working on improving.
Our wider ESG journey, including carbon measurement and our path towards Net Zero, is ongoing and will be reported in our Group Annual Report in 2026. We are making positive progress, but we know there is still more to do.
Small Changes Add Up
Global Recycling Day is a good time to take a step back and look at your everyday habits. Recycling your empties, reusing what you can, and making more conscious choices all add up over time.
At Technic Cosmetics, we will keep working behind the scenes to improve our sustainability while bringing you the affordable beauty products you love.
